Welcome to Israel! Arrive Ben Gurion Airport; meeting, assistance and transfer to your hotel in trendy Tel Aviv’s Mediterranean beach. Tonight, enjoy a light meal in the executive lounge of your hotel. Overnight in Tel Aviv.
Tuesday: Tel Aviv
Begin your tour today with a visit to the fascinating pre-state underground ammunitions factory at Machon Ayalon. Then we’ll have a wonderful discovery of Tel Aviv known as the “White City”. Tel Aviv has been proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its splendid Bauhaus Architecture and has the largest number of buildings in this unique style of any city in the world! Then, visit the extraordinary Israeli Museum at the Yitzhak Rabin Center chronicling the life of the late Prime Minister and the development of the State of Israel. On to the ancient port city of Jaffa. Walk along the charming cobblestone streets, now filled with boutiques and galleries. The great buys are at the bustling Flee Market in Jaffa so we’ll be sure to make a stop there. Your guide will also take you to the “Tachana”, the now open pedestrian area converted from a railway station before arriving back at your hotel. (B)
Wednesday: Tel Aviv-Haifa
Depart Tel Aviv to the town of Zichron Yacov whose magnificent gardens are dedicated to Baron Rothschild, one of Israel’s great benefactors. Visit Aharonson’s House and learn of the intriguing story of this family. On ancient Caesarea; tour the theater, aqueduct and Crusader fortress. On to Haifa in time to tour the extraordinary Persian Gardens and view the Bahai Temple. Arrive at your hotel in Haifa for overnight. (B)
Depart to the Crusader city of Acre (Akko); walk through the subterranean city and bazaars that recall the colorful middle Ages. On to Safed, one of Judaism’s holiest cities where the Kabbalah was developed in the 16th century; visit the ancient synagogues and the charming Artists’ Quarter. Drive to Capernaum and see the ruins of the ancient synagogue dating back to the 5th century. On to your Kibbutz Hotel for Dinner and Overnight. After Dinner, meet an Israeli family and learn more about Israel and the Kibbutz way of life. (B.D)
Friday: Golan Heights – Dead Sea
Ascend the Golan Heights and stop at Gadot, the memorial site for the fallen of the Golan, located over former Syrian bunkers and see the monument in honor of the Alexandroni brigade. Continue to Mount Bental, dormant volcanic mountain, for a panoramic view of Mount Hermon and the Golan heights. Here you will learn the story of one of the largest tank battles that took place in the 1973 war. Begin your drive to the lowest place on earth, the Dead Sea for Shabbat Dinner and overnight at your lovely spa hotel. (B.D)
Saturday: Dead Sea
Full Day at leisure. Rest, relax and enjoy all of the wonderful facilities at your spa-hotel and swim in the therapeutic “unsinkable” waters of the Dead Sea. Dinner at your hotel. (B.D)
Sunday: Dead Sea/Jerusalem
Drive to Masada; ascend by cable car to this palace/fortress built by Herod the Great. Visit the excavations, Herod’s palace and the bathhouse. Continue past the Qumran Caves, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Ascend to the holy city of Jerusalem; see the spectacular view of this “golden” city from Mt. Scopus. Drive through the main streets of the city to the Friends of Zion Heritage Center celebrating the Christian heroes who have contributed to the Jewish people and the State of Israel. These heroes come alive through, cutting edge, high tech imaging, audio-visual presentations, holograms and much more. On to your gorgeous hotel for overnight. (B)
We’ll first visit the Menachem Begin Museum, where, using the life story of the 6th Prime Minister of Israel, the visitor is taken on a journey through history using reconstructions, original items, rate documentary films as well as reenactments, interactive elements, dramatic lighting and an inspiring soundtrack. Time permitting on today’s schedule, we’ll drive to Mt. Zion to visit the traditional Tomb of King David. Then, enter the Old City to the Western Wall, last remnant of the Second Temple. Witness joyous Bar Mitzvah ceremonies! View the Dome of the Rock. Proceed to the restored Jewish Quarter; walk along the Cardo, the colonnaded main street of Byzantine Jerusalem. Walk through the extraordinary Hasmonean Tunnel (tunnel schedule permitting) and through the exotic bazaars with their wondrous aromas. Evening: Night Tour and Restaurant Dinner followed by the “Night Spectacular” Sound & Light Show at the Citadel Museum (weather and schedule permitting). Overnight in Jerusalem. (B.D)
Drive to Hadassah Medical Center to the see the sublime Chagall Windows. On to Yad Vashem, Israel’s national Memorial and Museum of the Holocaust with its Children’s Pavilion and Avenue of the Righteous. Then, to Mount Herzl to pay respects to Israel’s founders and heroes. Pass the post-modern Supreme Court and the Knesset (Parliament) en route to the Shrine of the Book, home of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Time to walk through the New Israel Museum and the Billy Rose Sculpture Garden; see the Scale Model of ancient Jerusalem. (B)
