Tuesday: Tel Aviv

We’ll all meet this morning and begin our tour driving first to Machon Ayalon, a secretive bullet factory established by the Haganah underground movement in 1945. As the largest bullet factory during that time, it produced 2.23 million bullets between 1946- 1948, while keeping the secret from the ruling British military. Continue to Neot Kedumim, an eco-tourism site and a “living museum” that recreates the physical setting of the Bible, in all its depth and detail. Here, you will have the opportunity to plant a tree in the soil of Israel. Drive back to Jaffa to explore the reconstructed Artists’ Quarter with its galleries and boutiques. We’ll head to Tel-Aviv’s popular Nachalat Benyamin, an open pedestrian Arts and Craft Fair where you will find a variety of hand made products as well as performance artists. Evening at leisure in vibrant Tel Aviv. (B)

Wednesday: Caesarea/Haifa/Galilee

Drive to Caesarea; visit the perfect Roman Theatre, the Hippodrome, the crusader walls and stop at the new multimedia show where one can “speak” to King Herod and many of the prominent elders who shaped history some 2000 years ago. Then, head to Haifa; see the meticulous Bahai Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, often described as the “eighth wonder of the world.” Proceed to a nearby Druze Village where we will learn about the Druze people and their way of life. Continue to Mitzpeh Hoshaya’s Kfar Kedem; participate in cheese making and bread baking and take the Donkey ride challenge (if you are skilled you’ll get your license as well). On to the Jordan River area, where you can test your skills kayaking on the Jordan River and zip lining on the Omega. Dinner and overnight at your Kibbutz hotel. (B.D)

Thursday: Galilee

We begin at Kibbutz Ayelet Hashachar; test your skill at target shooting. Visit an Army Base, with a wonderful opportunity to see IDF soldiers and observe the life of an active combat unit. Continue down the Northern slopes of the Golan Heights, stopping for a spectacular view of the lush finger of the Galilee en route to Tel Dan, the largest source of the Jordan River. An outdoor BBQ Dinner and Jeep Ride completes this spectacular day. (B.D)

Friday: Jerusalem

Begin the day in the ancient, sacred city of Safed, the center of Kabbalah; explore the picturesque ancient alleyways, the historic synagogues and visit some of the many fine galleries in this artists’ colony. Drive through the Jordan Valley to Beit Shean. Visit the largest excavated Roman city in the Middle East that was home to approximately 40,000 people. See the Roman temple, artisan workshop, public baths and a magnificent amphitheater that is still used for performances. Then drive south and rise through the mountains to Jerusalem. Upon arrival, stop for a blessing of Shehecheyanu while taking in the sweeping views of the Old City. Tonight, traditional Shabbat Dinner at the hotel in Jerusalem. (B.D)

Saturday: Jerusalem

Day at leisure in this fascinating city with an opportunity to rest, participate in one of the many Shabbat services, or visit with family. Or, simply enjoy the swimming pool and fantastic facilities at your hotel. (B)

Sunday: Jerusalem

Drive to Ammunition Hill to learn about the epic battle fought by the Israeli Paratroopers and Jordanian Legionnaires in the Six Day War (1967) that resulted in the unification of Jerusalem. Continue to Yad Vashem national memorial and Museum of the Holocaust. Stop in the Grove of the Righteous among the Nations; continue to the Children’s Memorial and take part in a special “Yizkor” (memorial service) in Bikat Ha Kehilot (The Valley of Communities); visit the new museum. A special program will be provided for children (accompanied by one parent). Stop at Mt. Herzl to discuss “from Shoah Vetkuma” (from destruction to Independence); visit the final resting place of the founders of modern day Israel who had a dream and some of the young men who paid the ultimate price to make the dream a reality. Drive to Machane Yehuda Market and walk along the alleys tasting locally made halva, homemade Jerusalem ice cream, natural health drinks and fine olive oils. This evening, meet with the Rabbi for a final rehearsal before the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony before driving to Genesis Land located in the heart of the Judean Desert. Experience life as it was in the biblical times. You will be greeted by Abraham’s servant, Eliezer, and a train of camels who will lead you down to Abraham’s tent for the Bedouin “Chafla”– a sumptuous Dinner of Bedouin cuisine while you enjoy their unique hospitality. Return to Jerusalem for overnight. (B.D)

Monday: Jerusalem

The big day is here and we’ve made sure that it’s everything you’ve hoped for and more. The Bar/Bat Mitzvah service will take place at the Southern Wall Archaeological Park where you will experience a fascinating presentation describing life around the Temple Mount. Continue to the Biblical City of David in the heart of Ancient Jerusalem, the city of kings and prophets, where the most exciting finds of recent years were found including an impressive public structure from the times of the Kings of Judea. Visit the underground water system including new discoveries in the area of the Canaanite Citadel and the Canaanite Pool. Take the full wet trail or walk in the dry tunnel. Arrive at the Kotel – the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site, and finish the day’s adventure walking back in time through the Western Wall (Rabbinical) Tunnels, a fantastic route running under the Old City. Tonight we’ve planned a Festive Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration in honor of the children’s hard work and the dedication they have shown. Enjoy a specially arranged dinner planned around the freshest of local bounty and live entertainment (subject to group size). It will be a night to remember! (B.D)

Tuesday: Dead Sea/Jerusalem

Descend through the Judean Desert to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Planet earth, stopping first at Ein Gedi Nature Reserve where the landscape and climate conditions have created an ecosystem of springs, waterfalls and pools surrounded by lush greenery in the desolate desert setting. Enjoy an opportunity to cool off in the refreshing pools and waterfalls of this unique oasis. Ascend Masada by cable car, the last stronghold of the Zealots who chose death rather than surrendering to the Roman Legion in the Jewish Revolt against Rome some 2000 years ago. Descend Masada and drive to one of the hotels at the Dead Sea for lunch and swim; float effortlessly in the therapeutic mineral-rich waters and enjoy the hotel facilities. Return to Jerusalem for overnight. Evening:  Sound & Light show in Jerusalem. (B.L)

Tour the IDF Armoured Corps Musuem, where all the tanks used by the Israeli army since 1948 are on display. Return to the hotel to refresh before our farewell dinner.
